Things to Do in Sugar Land & Richmond | October 2026

Community event in Sugar Land and Richmond area during an October evening

October is one of those months when there’s a lot going on around here, and it’s very easy to hear about something after it already happened.

So I went through what’s coming up in Sugar Land, Richmond and nearby Fort Bend County and pulled together the ones I thought were actually worth putting on the calendar. There’s a little bit of everything this month: date-night ideas, things to do with the kids, live music and, of course, plenty of fall and Halloween events.

Here are a few that caught my attention.

Fort Bend County Fair & Rodeo | October 1–4

I know this one is technically in Rosenberg, but it would feel strange to do an October list for our area and leave out the Fort Bend County Fair.

The fair starts in September, but the last four days fall in October. There’s still plenty happening that weekend, including the PRCA Rodeo, carnival and concerts. Josh Meloy performs October 1, followed by Pat Green on October 2, Vincent Mason on October 3 and Gary P. Nunn on October 4.

If you haven’t been in a while, this might be a good year to go back.

Dates: Thursday, October 1–Sunday, October 4

Hours: Thursday & Friday, 5 p.m.–midnight; Saturday, 10 a.m.–midnight; Sunday, noon–10 p.m.

Location: Fort Bend County Fairgrounds, 4310 Hwy. 36 South, Rosenberg

Price: Adults 12+ $15 advance / $20 at the gate; children 4–11 $5

Dancing Under the Stars | October 2

If you want an easy Friday-night date idea without making a huge production out of it, I like this one.

Fred Astaire Dance Studio will be at Sugar Land Town Square for an evening of dancing and complimentary instruction. You could have dinner nearby, walk over to the Plaza and make a night of it. And no, you don’t have to know how to dance before you get there.

Date: Friday, October 2

Time: 7:30–9 p.m.

Location: Sugar Land Town Square, 2711 Plaza Drive

Price: Complimentary

A Friday Evening in Richmond | October 2

Richmond has two things happening the same Friday, and they work really well together.

The Richmond Farmers Market runs from 4 to 8 p.m. at City Hall Plaza, and later that evening Zootopia will be showing outdoors at Wessendorff Park. The movie starts at 7:30 p.m.

This is probably one of the easiest family nights on the list — walk around the market, grab something to eat and then head over to the movie. The Rotary Club provides complimentary popcorn, and the city provides water during the movie.

Date: Friday, October 2

Farmers Market: 4–8 p.m.

Movie: 7:30–9 p.m.

Location: Historic Downtown Richmond / Wessendorff Park

Price: Outdoor movie is free; food and purchases at the market are separate

Haunted History Tours | October 16, 17, 23 & 24

This one feels a little different from the usual pumpkin patches and fall festivals.

The Fort Bend Museum is hosting its Haunted History Tours through historic downtown Richmond on four nights in October. The evening includes local ghost stories and access to historic properties, including the McFarlane House.

I think this would be fun for a date night or a night out with friends, especially if you like local history with a slightly spooky twist.

Dates: October 16, 17, 23 & 24

Time: 7–9 p.m.

Location: Fort Bend Museum / Historic Downtown Richmond

Price: Ticketed event; check the museum’s ticket page for current pricing

Movies on the Square: Toy Story 5 | October 16

If you have younger kids — or you just love Toy Story — this is an easy Friday night.

Sugar Land Town Square will be showing Toy Story 5 outdoors on the Plaza. Bring a blanket, find a spot and you’re set. They’re also planning complimentary popcorn, and you can always pick up dinner or dessert from one of the restaurants around Town Square.

Date: Friday, October 16

Time: 7–9 p.m.

Location: Sugar Land Town Square, 2711 Plaza Drive

Price: Free

Aerosmith Tribute Concert | October 17

Same Town Square, completely different night.

The following evening there’s an Aerosmith tribute concert on the Plaza. I like this one as another simple date-night option — dinner, maybe a drink and live music outside without having to drive into Houston.

Bring a lawn chair or blanket if you want to sit.

Date: Saturday, October 17

Time: 7:30–9:30 p.m.

Location: Sugar Land Town Square, 2711 Plaza Drive

Price: No admission price is currently listed on the official event page

More information: Aerosmith Tribute Concert

Jaguar Club of Houston Car Show | October 24

Even if you’re not a serious car person, this could be a fun Saturday stop if you’re already heading to Town Square for lunch or shopping.

The Jaguar Club of Houston is holding its annual Concours d’Elegance, with Jaguars on display throughout the Plaza. It’s one of those events you can stop by for an hour without having to dedicate your whole day to it.

Date: Saturday, October 24

Time: 9 a.m.–3 p.m.

Location: Sugar Land Town Square

Price: No admission price is currently listed on the official event page

Día de los Muertos Celebration | October 25

This is one I definitely wanted to include.

Sugar Land Town Square will host its Día de los Muertos celebration with Mariachi music, Folklórico and Aztec dance performances, cultural presentations, activities for children, local vendors and food.

The Sugar Land Heritage Foundation will also have its Día de los Muertos exhibit on display at the Heritage Museum from October 12 through November 1.

It sounds like a nice Sunday afternoon and something that different generations of the family can enjoy together.

Date: Sunday, October 25

Time: Noon–5 p.m.

Location: Sugar Land Town Square

Price: No admission price is currently listed on the official event page

Yappy Hour | October 29

And one for the dog owners.

Sugar Land’s Yappy Hour is back at Pawm Springs Dog Park with food trucks, music, pet vendors and Halloween activities. Dogs that come dressed for Halloween are supposed to get a special treat, which may be reason enough to go.

The activities and entertainment are free, so this is an easy one if you want to get out for a couple of hours and bring your dog along.

Date: Thursday, October 29

Time: 6–8 p.m.

Location: Pawm Springs Dog Park, 15300 University Blvd., Sugar Land

Price: Free; food and beverages available for purchase

More information: Sugar Land Yappy Hour

Halloween in Richmond | October 31

If you still need plans for Halloween itself, Richmond has two very different options.

  1. Little Wrangler’s Trick or Treat

For families, George Ranch is hosting Little Wrangler’s Trick or Treat. Kids can dress up and trick-or-treat from historic house to historic house while learning a little about how All Hallows Eve was celebrated in the past.

It’s a fun option if you want something that feels a little different from the typical neighborhood trick-or-treating.

Date: Saturday, October 31

Location: George Ranch Historical Park, Richmond

Time: Not yet published on the official event page

Price: Ticketed; check George Ranch for current pricing

  1. Echoes of Enchantment Fantasy Ball

For adults, the Fort Bend Museum is doing something completely different: the Echoes of Enchantment Fantasy Ball.

It’s an 18+ Halloween event with dinner, ballroom dancing and fantasy-themed experiences throughout the museum property. Definitely not your typical Halloween night in Richmond.

Date: Saturday, October 31

Time: 6–11 p.m.

Location: Fort Bend Museum, Richmond

Price: $100 per person

Ages: 18+

A Few October Concerts to Know About

There are also several bigger shows coming to Smart Financial Centre this month, so I didn’t want to leave those out.

  • Juanes: Sunday, October 4 at 8 p.m.

  • Los Tigres del Norte: Saturday, October 10 at 8 p.m.

  • Mon Laferte: Friday, October 16 at 8 p.m.

  • Cristian Castro: Saturday, October 24 at 8 p.m.

Ticket prices vary depending on the show, seating and availability, so I would check Smart Financial Centre or the official ticketing page before making plans.

Before You Go

I do my best to verify everything before sharing it, but event details can change — especially times, ticket prices and outdoor events affected by weather. I always recommend checking the official event link before heading out.

And if I missed something really good happening around Sugar Land or Richmond this month, send it my way. I’m always looking for things worth adding to the next list.
